How to Spot Hidden Gems in Domain Auctions Using AI (AI domain auction analysis and My Favorite Prompts)

AI domain auction analysis

Introduction

At Domain Academy, we’re always looking for ways to help investors gain an edge. AI domain auction analysis is one big way to get ahead of the competition. Our quarterly event auctions consistently offer some of the best opportunities for both beginners and experienced domainers to acquire premium domain names—often at no reserve. But with hundreds of names up for grabs, how do you quickly sift the gold from the gravel?

For instance in the latest auction I was able to quickly find domains like InsurancePolicies.com. Whiskeys.com, CloudPrivacy.com, and WorkoutPlans.com and get the A.I. models to point out reasons why these domains are great options to invest in while pointing me towards the reasons I should further research for each.

In my latest video, I walk you through my complete process: from filtering and exporting auction inventory, to using different AI models to analyze opportunities, calculate potential ROI, and assess both quantitative and qualitative factors. In this post I’ll recap the most important steps—and I’ll share the actual prompts I used with the AI tools.

Why Event Auctions Are Your Best Friend

Event auctions often get overlooked in favor of expired domain auctions. But if you’re only chasing expiry inventory, you’re missing out. No-reserve event auctions are where savvy investors can stock up on brandable, in-demand domains at a fraction of their potential resale value—if you know how to spot them.

The System: From Discovery to Analysis

Here’s how I tackle each auction round:

  1. Find the Event Auction:
Use auctions.godaddy.com and select the “event auctions” filter in the advanced search. This instantly narrows the list down to the right names.
  2. Sort and Export:
Sort by estimated value, current price, bids, or other metrics in the UI. But for deeper analysis, export the entire list (complete with names and prices) as a CSV and clean up the data for clarity.
  3. AI domain auction analysis:
This is where the real fun begins. Instead of eyeballing 800+ names, I rely on AI large language models to help analyze the list, surface the best candidates, and give me both numbers and compelling rationale.

Using AI domain auction analysis: Models & Prompts

To get a rounded view, I used three major AI models:

  • ChatGPT-5.1 (OpenAI)
  • Perplexity AI
  • Grok

By creating tailored prompts for each model, I could compare their picks, rationale, and scoring. Below are the prompts I used—feel free to adapt them for your own research!

Prompt Template (exact prompts used are found near the end of the article).

I have a list of about 800 domain names that are on a special event auction. Each row contains the domain name and current auction price. Please review this list and identify the domains offering the highest ROI potential, considering both quantitative and qualitative factors.

Please take into account:

  • Brandability
  • Category of the domain
  • Historical comparable sale prices
  • Average cost per click (CPC) and online advertising budget for keywords
  • TLD popularity and associated sell-through rates
  • Number of industries/verticals using this term
  • Comparable sales and average prices
  • Potential end user count
  • Trend and emerging industry potential
  • Geo-specific demand, if any
  • Buyer budget profile
  • Floor wholesale vs. peak retail values
  • Estimated “hold” time before resale

Provide a table of top picks with your reasoning. Also identify any dimensions I’m overlooking. If possible, include references for comparable sales and market data.

Additional Instructions for Model Comparison:

  • For Perplexity AI:
“Where possible, please cite your data sources for domain sales, CPC, or market trends.”
  • For ChatGPT-5.1:
“Give a qualitative as well as quantitative analysis. Rate each name for brandability, liquidity, CPC strength, end user count, trending potential, and sell-through likelihood.”
  • For GR:
“Show the ROI multiple, estimated hold time, and any notes on industry demand.”

What Did I Learn?

Each model surfaces slightly different top picks—but comparing them revealed useful patterns:

  • Models flagged insurance-related names as top picks due to high CPC and strong end-user demand.
  • Plural word forms (like “whiskeys”) were highlighted due to broad industry use and prior auction results.
  • AI analysis helps you catch strong domains that might be buried deep in a large list.
  • Models emphasizing citation (like Perplexity) provided more confidence in the data used for estimates.

Why This Matters (and What To Do Next)

Domain investing is about making confident decisions based on both data and context. By using AI domain auction analysis, tailored prompts, leveraging multiple models, and triangulating the results, I can better prioritize my bidding and get a clearer picture of resale potential—even for obscure names.
